Who is the Greatest Golfer Ever? This is a question that has puzzled sports writers and golf fans since the game began. Over the last 20 years Nicklaus, Palmer, and Hogan, have all been strong contenders. But no one has ever approached the greatness of Tiger Woods. At only age 3 Tiger shot a 48 over nine holes at the Navy Golf Club in his hometown of Cypress, California. Then at age 8 Tiger won the Optimist International Junior Championship in the 8-15 age category; Tiger was the youngest player ever to win. Tiger kept moving forward. At the age of 15 he once again was breaking barriers and setting new records; he became the youngest U.S. Junior Amateur Champion in history. To become the best golfer of all time wasn't as natural for Tiger as it looked to the public eye. A lot of people saw Tiger as a good golfer but why is he the best? Racism A lot of people think how he over came racism in golf as the most obvious reason for Tigers' fame, but Tiger did more then over come racist remarks and comments. Even without mentioning racism, Tiger is undeniably still the greatest golfer. Long hours of practice and dedication - Tiger endured endless hours weekly practicing the fundamentals of golf he needed to become a pro. Unlike other pro golfers Tiger was never satisfied with his skills, he was always working to perfect his shots. Tiger wasn't pushed anywhere where he didn't want to go. Tiger's drive and ambitious ways came from within. Media Attacks, expectations, schoolwork, family No matter how busy Tiger was he didn't let golf rule his life. Tiger kept close family relationships, and maintained close bonds with his parents. Tiger wasn't finished with school by the time he came pro; he attended Stanford University to get an education he could fall back on. Tiger had outrageous expectations for a young golfer that most people believed he wouldn't be able to live up to. Motivated by his Dad's expectations, combined with all the pressure, Tiger developed into one of the best golf legends of all time. Through becoming famous and being surrounded by the media Tiger didn't change his personality and kept true to himself, valuing the things that meant the most to him, and remembering the lessons he learned in his childhood. Beating the rest This year in April Tiger won the Master's Tournament; he is now the first golfer ever to hold all four professional major championships at the same time. Tiger is constantly bringing new fans to the game, and increasing the popularity of golf. Woods is the best, he expects to win and his competitors expect him to win. The best players today confess that when Tiger is on his game, no one can beat him. The perfect modern role model - As a result of a childhood lesson, Tiger learnt the value of making a difference in the world. In 1996 he introduced the Tiger Woods Foundation, promoting health, education, and welfare for underprivileged children. Not by just being one of the best golfers' but also being sincere enough to help millions of children in North America makes him confidently a genuine person and a true role model for people to follow. Tiger always displayed integrity, honesty, and diplomacy in everything he stood for.
Recent polls and ratings have ranked Tiger usually in the top 10 as the greatest golfer ever, but the 2000 Golf Digest (popular golf magazine), rated Tiger as the twelfth best golfer of all time behind Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and other golf legends. This rating was preposterous and out of proportion. Tiger Woods is the one who has set and broken most of the records, and is still going many lengths to achieve his goals. He should be the number one golfer of all time and if anyone can match his talent and skill he would surrender his title like the Golf Media should do with other legends of Golf stating their time is up and Tiger Woods is pushing through.
